2008 NEC: AFCIs Required Throughout New Dwellings
As we anxiously await the release of the 2008 National Electrical Code (NEC) this fall, there are several significant revisions to be considered. The final proposals were approved last month, and perhaps one of the most important amendments we’ll find in the latest version of the NEC is that combination-type arc-fault circuit interrupters (AFCIs) will now be required for 120V, 15A and 20A branch circuits in newly-constructed dwellings.
